Consistent with the characteristic of the 5-year integrated degree in Law, as a pathway to the legal profession, students can bring forward a semester of professional internship, in the final year of their studies, before graduating.
A prerequisite is that students have paid their tuition fees and examinations for the first four years of the course and have obtained credits in the following scientific disciplines: Private law (IUS/01); Civil procedural law (IUS/15); Criminal law (US/17); Criminal procedural law (IUS/16); Administrative law (IUS/10); Constitutional law (IUS/08); European Union law (IUS/14).
The Agreements entered into by the University of Messina with the Bar Associations define the procedures for applying for and carrying out the traineeship so as to ensure the successful continuation and conclusion of university studies. It also defines the number of hours per week of actual attendance at the firm, and the number of hearings that the trainee student must attend during the semester.
The Director of the Department assigns the student trainee an academic tutor chosen from among the Department's academic staff. At the end of the semester, the student trainee draws up a detailed final report on the activities carried out, signed by the lawyers with whom he/she carried out the traineeship and by the academic tutor. The report is filed with the Order's Council, which issues a certificate of completion of the six-month traineeship.
