The Department Council take decisions concerning the planning of the Department's activities and on all the matters provided for in Article 6 of the Departmental Regulations.
The Council is composed by all the tenured professors, tenured and fixed-term researchers working at the Department, the Administrative Secretary, two representatives of the assignees and PhD students and two representatives of the postgraduates, student representatives amounting to 15% of the entire board (elected by universal suffrage by the students of the courses of study for the organisation and management of which the Department is responsible), as well as a representative of the technical-administrative staff if the number of lecturers is less than or equal to 70, two if the number is greater than 70 and up to 120, three if the number is greater than 120.
The representatives of the technical-administrative staff hold office for three years and may be re-elected once consecutively.
The representatives of research grant holders and PhD students, the representatives of postgraduate students and the student representatives hold office for two years and may be re-elected once consecutively. Students participate only in meetings where the general organisation of teaching and services and the identification of objectives for the definition of the Department's and the University's lines of development are discussed.
The functions of the secretary taking the minutes are performed by the administrative secretary, who has an advisory vote for matters pertaining to teaching and research, and a deliberative vote for all other matters.
